Frida and Ebba’s big shock – over the numbers that threaten Swedish cross-country skiing: “It’s a shame”

Sweden is losing its skiing talent.
That causes Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson to react.
– It’s a shame, says Andersson.

Sweden has the hottest national team in a long time, and at least on the women’s side, the dominance is total. Young skaters such as Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson have already become established world stars, and during the winter WC there was a total slaughter of the Swedish national team.

The scary numbers

But what does the regrowth actually look like? According to figures published on skidor.com, only one skier in ten continues with skiing after completing his studies at one of Sweden’s ski high schools. This means that Sweden loses a whopping 90 percent of all talent after high school.

There are significantly more girls than boys who drop out of the investment, the study shows, and this causes Frida Karlsson to react. When Expressen talks to the world star, she initially guesses that four out of ten continue.

– Oh. Only one in ten? It’s a number we would like to improve, says Karlsson to the newspaper.

“It’s a shame”

Ebba Andersson is also surprised. At the same time, the WC queen believes that there is much that attracts at that age, and that unfortunately skiing is not always the whole world.

– It’s a shame that nine out of ten don’t continue instead. But this is how reality looks – so it’s just a matter of finding the right strategy to preserve the interest in skiing on the girls’ side, says Ebba Andersson.

Frida Karlsson believes that it is a shame that more people don’t choose to invest, because it is proven that it is possible to succeed reasonably well…

– It is clear that I hoped that more people would want to keep doing what I do – because it really is a pretty good life!
