Eight thousand species of Pisces are fish ofpure water. The fish in our rivers and lakes are beings adapted to aquatic life by their shape, their fins, their scales, their respiratory system and some of their sense organs.
The fish departs from us because it specializes in a different direction from ours. This is perhaps one of the reasons why fish are only very rarely mentioned among the favorite animals. However, they represent half of vertebrates with nearly 24,000 species, a third of which live in pure water !

Some freshwater fish are great travelers
The fish are very old, dating back 450 million years. As for the cyprinids (the largest family of freshwater fish), they arrived in Europe 30 million years ago… Some are great travelers and travel nearly 10,000 kilometers in their lifetime.
