François Letexier has been appointed to referee the Euro 2024 final between England and Spain, Sunday July 14 in Berlin, UEFA, the body that governs European football, announced on Thursday July 11. The man with the whistle will be assisted by his compatriots Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni. Frenchmen Jérôme Brisard and Willy Delajod will be in charge of video refereeing. François Letexier, 35 and a bailiff outside of football, has already officiated at 65 official UEFA matches. The referee officiated three group matches during the Euro in Germany (Spain-Georgia, Denmark-Serbia and Croatia-Albania) and was the fourth official during the opening match Germany-Scotland. His appointment for the final was helped by France’s elimination in the semi-finals of the tournament by Spain (2-1). He will be the first Frenchman to referee a European Nations Championship final since Michel Vautrot in 1988.
