The woman belonged to a group of 25 people who camped at Sveasletta in northern Isfjorden, writes NRK.
“The governor was informed a little before 08:30 in the morning about a polar bear attack in a tent camp and rushed out with a helicopter shortly after,” says Stein Olav Bredli at the Governor’s authority office in a press release.
The woman did not suffer life-threatening injuries. She is said to have been injured in an arm and has been taken by helicopter to a hospital in Longyearbyen.
The polar bear was scared off with shots and has since been found by the authorities, who will now decide what will happen to it.
