France faces sanctions against a number of settlers in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, French AFP reports.

In total, there are 28 individuals who, according to France, are behind violence against Palestinians. They are now denied entry into France, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris announces.

“France imposes sanctions against extremist Israeli settlers who are guilty of violence against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank,” reads the statement from the ministry.

According to France, the “unacceptable violence committed by settlers” has increased in recent months.

The US has previously imposed sanctions on four Israeli settlers due to violence in the West Bank. A growing majority within the EU is calling for a similar deal within the union, but the issue has been repeatedly blocked by the Czech Republic and Hungary.
