French military supply questioned at Eurosatory

Eurosatory, the world’s largest exhibition dedicated to land armaments closes its doors this Friday evening, June 17. For manufacturers, this fair, which takes place every two years, aims to present their productions. A very popular 2022 edition, as NATO countries rearm in the context of the war in Ukraine.

They are elbow to elbow, the high-tech companies, in the aisles ofEurosatorthere : there are those that produce proprietary sensors and others that specialize in connected combat systems. This show is a bit of a showcase for the wars of tomorrow. But Eurosatory is also the meeting place for a more traditional defense industry: that which produces cannons and their ammunition.

After years of scarcity, President Emmanuel Macron, on the first day of the show last Monday, announced that it was now necessary to adjust the means to the threats and the means immediately, because the stocks of ammunition are far too low in France. . A recent parliamentary report indicates that it would take 3 to 6 billion euros to replenish them. It is necessary, for example, to count a few thousand euros per artillery shell and nearly 200,000 euros for an anti-tank missile.

Beyond the cost, the problem of producing more is also industrial: some components are missing, it takes more than two years to manufacture a complex ammunition. We must set up a war economy, to accelerate production, pleads the head of state. This reorganization therefore fueled the conversations during this 2022 edition of Eurosatory.
