Last month, Burkina Faso’s government canceled a 2018 agreement on French military presence and France confirmed it would do so within four weeks.
The call to leave the country came from junta leader Ibrahim Traoré who seized power in a coup in September 2022. There are around 400 French soldiers in Burkina Faso
In the past, French forces have left neighboring Mali following similar demands.
The region is plagued by attacks from Islamist extremists.
