French Rudi Garcia trying to lift the Belgian men’s national football team from the disappointment of the last European Championship to a new rise. The Belgian Football Association announced on Friday that it had appointed the 60-year-old Garcia as head coach.
Garcia replaces as head coach by Domenico Tedescowho was fired last week.
The coaching job of the national team is the first of Garcia’s career. He has previously piloted tough club teams, including Lille, Marseille and Lyon in France and AS Roma and Napoli in Italy, where Garcia’s previous coaching stint lasted five months in the fall of 2023. In the 2022-2023 season, he coached Saudi Arabian al-Nassr.
Belgium, which is eighth in the national team ranking, will play the relegation matches of the Nations League against Ukraine in March. In June, the team will start the World Cup qualifiers with an away match against North Macedonia.
Two more years for German pilots
will continue at the helm of the German national team until the European Championships in 2028. The German’s contract has been extended by two years. Nagelsmann has been piloting the national team since September 2023.
