Since Thursday morning, a large police task force has searched for the perpetrators and the freed person, including with a police helicopter.
The police see a risk that the person freed may leave the country and they have taken their routines to secure at border crossings. The 17-year-old is now also wanted internationally, and the police in several neighboring countries have received information about the case.
– Of course we cooperate between all police regions in the country in a case like this, and we also do that with our neighboring countries. I cannot go into exactly what that collaboration looks like, says Per Fahlström, press spokesperson at the police in the Stockholm region.
Norwegian police confirm that it has received information from Swedish police about the case. Danish police refer all questions to Swedish police.
Conduct traffic checks
There were at least two masked people who threatened the staff of the Prison Service during the release in Södertälje.
– We work hard to find these people, we do this through, among other things, intelligence work, intelligence work, both internal and external intelligence. It can be through, for example, spontaneous traffic controls, say you in the country in a matter like this, and we also do that with our neighboring countries. I cannot go into exactly what that collaboration looks like, says Per Fahlström.
He does not want to speculate on whether the 17-year-old may have already left Sweden. No one has yet been arrested after the release.
The police have an ongoing preliminary investigation regarding serious illegal threats and serious weapons offences. At the same time, the Correctional Service has started an internal investigation into the incident.
