This summer, Swedish 18-year-olds will get free train tickets in Europe.

The EU can pay for a month-long holiday for you.
The train pass for the summer of 2024 will be distributed to 35,000 European young people.
The project is called Discover EU and started seven years ago.
What do tapas really taste like in Barcelona? How to become friends with people in Amsterdam? Do you want to go on a solo trip and visit the Berlin Wall in Germany or go to a musical in London with your friends?
The aim of the project is for young people to have the chance to experience culture, make new friends in other countries and explore themselves.

Then you can apply
There are strict rules regarding who can apply for the travel card. For the summer of 2024, you must be born between July 1, 2005 and June 30, 2006.
You must also be a citizen of an EU country or a country linked to the Erasmus programme. infocloseErasmus program. Erasmus+ is the EU’s program for education, internships, youth exchanges and sports projects in the EU.
This means that you can apply if you are a citizen or live in Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey.
The application is open on the EU website from 16 April to 30 April 2024.

Go with your friends
But traveling solo is not for everyone – that’s why you can apply to travel with your friends.
This year, it is expected that 793 Swedish 18-year-olds will be allowed to travel for free this summer.
The travel card mainly applies to trains, but can also include flights, boats or buses.
Those selected will also receive offers with discounts on cultural events, activities, local transport, accommodation and food.
