Free international film screenings at Laurier Brantford

Screenings of films from around the world are being offered free of charge thanks to a partnership between the City of Brantford and Wilfrid Laurier University’s Hub for Community Solutions.

The international film series will take place on Wednesday evenings during the winter months at the Steven and Helen Kun Theater on the lower level of the Research and Academic Center at 150 Dalhousie Street in Brantford.

The screenings provide an opportunity to celebrate different languages, cultures, and cinematic art.

Doors open at 6:30 pm with the films screened at 7 pm

A guest speaker will share insights and perspectives on each film to help spark understanding and appreciation for the film and its culture, according to a press release.

Films to be shown include:

– Feb. 7: The Lunchbox (India) written and directed by Ritesh Batra with an introduction by Achintaya Chhabra, co-president of the Laurier Indian Student Association.

– Feb. 28: Taafe Fanga/Skirt Power (Mali) directed by Adama Drabo, with an introduction by Robert Ame, Laurier Professor in Human Rights and Criminology.

– Mar. 13: The Banshees of Inisherin (Ireland) directed, written, and co-produced by Martin McDonagh with an introduction by Kathryn Carter, Laurier Professor in the Faculty of Liberal Arts.

– Mar. 27: The Diving Bell the Butterfly (France) directed by Julian Schnabel.
