Free horror game Golgotha review

We are here with our free horror game Golgotha review content coming to Steam today. It’s a frightening production, albeit for a short time.

The products put forward by independent developers lately can be quite impressive. Sometimes, the productions produced by a single person can be much higher than expected. Like the upcoming Golgotha review developed by Craig Lawrence and distributed by Lockley Games…

Free horror game Golgotha review

When I got up in the morning, I said, “I have to be a little scared today.” I went to Steam and started researching newly released games. When I came across Golgotha, I believed I had found what I was looking for. To be honest, I thought it might be related since I had a virus stuck in my mind from Resident Evil. But it has no connection whatsoever. 🙂 Since the file size is also low (1.13 GB), I decided to give it a shot.

Story

The Second World War contains many stories and when you combine it with your own fiction and different genres, you have an endless source. The Black Waters Station in England, which is the subject of the game, is one of these stories. People were hiding in subway stations to escape the war in the 1940s. However, sometimes people could not escape from these areas and lost their lives there. This is where the name Golgotha comes from. It refers to the areas where people are buried alive.

After the installation, we start the game by seeing the story. In 1942, Black Waters Station was covered in a toxic fog that killed thousands of people as they slept in the station’s tunnels and platforms to escape the war. After the terrible ordeal, the authorities closed the doors of Black Waters and sealed it to the public. Again, neither saw nor heard the people there. It took its place on the dusty shelves of history.

Golgotha Railway Station

We open our eyes at the station. It’s dark all around. There is very little that we can see around us. When we look at the note standing next to us, we see that we have to leave the station. Although how we got here is left unclear, we have a mission. To escape and save our lives.

Fortunately, there is a lamp next to the note. When I first started the game, I had to wander blindly in the dark for a while because it didn’t occur to me to pick up the huge lamp that was in front of my eyes. When I got stuck, I thought of going back to the beginning and getting it 🙂

Gameplay

Golgotha is a single plane game. You come across a closed door and you need to find the key to open it. Fortunately, we were given a hint on where to find the key on the previous screen.

There is absolutely no action in the game. However, as you move forward to find the exit, suddenly appearing objects or sounds can make your heart flutter. In some horror games, don’t wait for a ghost or zombies running towards you when you turn your back. But inevitably, you need to check your back. It was these scenes that added fear to the game anyway.

One of the most impressive aspects was the sound effects used. As in typical horror movies, your mind was not tried to be distracted by sudden screams or various noises. Increasingly disturbing sound effects will stir your emotions and force you to act faster.

graphics

Designed with the Unity engine, the game can run comfortably even on old computers. However, I ran into minor optimization problems from time to time. Although these problems do not affect your gaming experience, they can cause your computer’s cooler to cry. I think the most reason for this is the blurring effect in the screen transitions.

Since I knew that the game was developed by a single person, I did not expect a spectacular result graphically. Still, the graphics I came across are at a satisfactory level. We see great projects created with Unity. For this reason, we can see that the game does not use all the features of the game engine graphically.

On the other hand, the duration of the game was one of the most important factors in reducing the score. I finished it in about 40 minutes. Your familiarity with the genre can shorten or lengthen your playing time.

Decision

Golgotha makes you feel the fear in your veins, even if it is short-lived. I recommend those who like the game genre, which is offered for free, to try it. Its impressive atmosphere forced me to finish it for the second time. It’s even a game that can be played just for speedrun.

I also contacted producer Craig Lawrence. He plans to release his second game later this year. I have to say I’m excited already.

Download the game to your Steam library. from here you can add
