Since January 1, 2023, people under 26 can now get male condoms free of charge from pharmacies.

Since Sunday, it is possible to withdraw free male condoms in pharmacies, provided you are under 26 years old. “It’s a small prevention revolution“, had confided on this subject the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron.

An anonymous condom donation for minors

Concretely, girls or boys under the age of 26 will be able to collect a box of male condoms free of charge per day, from two brands of latex condoms “Eden” and “Sortez covered”.

The only condition to obtain them is simple: to be under 26 years old. A control will in fact be carried out by the pharmacist.

The major will have to give his Vitale card to the specialist, who, in exchange, will give him a free box of 12 or 24 condoms.

On the other hand, if it is a minor, no verification will be made: the patient can present his Vitale card, but it is not compulsory.

The donation of condoms will also remain anonymous – the parents will not receive a summary letter or email from the Health Insurance.

Another important detail: if the reimbursement of these condoms is indeed 100% covered by Medicare, it will not be possible to choose your brand or the range of condoms….

    Reduce sexually transmitted infections

This government initiative comes at a time when sexually transmitted infections are on the rise in the country.

One of the major issues is the health of young people“, had alerted the Minister of Health on December 9, on BFMTV and RMC, in a context of “recurrence of sexually transmitted infections, which are a big cause of infertility“.

During the Covid crisis alone, STIs had indeed increased by 30% between 2020 and 2021 according to the national reference center for STIs.
