Fredrik Reinfeldt’s giant criticism against the controversial verdict on the Super League that the entire football world is talking about

The chairman of the Swedish Football Association, Fredrik Reinfeldt, is critical of the EU court’s decision on the so-called super league.
“It is of the utmost importance to stand up for a system that is so important to our grassroots football,” he says.

The European Court of Justice’s ruling could open the way for other players to create club team tournaments that could compete with the European Football Association’s (Uefa) current competitions. An initiative to create a super league was also unveiled just hours after the verdict.

The European football model means that income generated through international tournaments such as the Champions League and European Championship contributes to developing national football.

The Swedish Football Association (SvFF) writes on its website that it recently received SEK 43 million in grants from Uefa, money to be distributed to Swedish clubs that train children and young people in football. Of the SvFF’s total budget this year, a third, SEK 233 million, comes from Uefa and the International Football Association (FIFA).

“It is of the utmost importance to stand up for a model that is so important to our grassroots football. We don’t know what another alternative, another construction, would mean,” says Fredrik Reinfeldt.
“Without the financial resources from the Uefa system, many young Swedish football talents might never have had the chance to reach their full potential. And more children and young people would risk missing out on the joy and community that football offers.”
