Stina Nilsson switched from biathlon to long race for this season.
Now former elite athlete Fredrik Lindström, who won Olympic gold as a biathlon, says what he thinks about Stina’s decision.
“It wasn’t an easy way to go,” he tells the Sports Bible.
After four years as a biathlon chose Stina Nilsson31, to leave the sport. After last year’s season, she announced that she would instead invest in long races and compete in Ski Classics. Previously, she has been a successful cross-country skier who has taken both the Olympic and World Cup gold.
One that has followed Stina Nilsson’s journey closely in recent years is Fredrik Lindström35. He himself is an old biathlon and he was part of the men’s tuning team that won the Olympic gold in Pyeongchang 2018.
– Yes, but then Stina is an inspiration so that you go your own ways and test, follow the desire and the gut feeling what you want to do later. Long race I have a little bad look at now, but definitely that I note that she was on the podium in the premiere, he tells the Sports Bible.
Stina Nilsson has the properties required
Like many other Swedes, Fredrik thinks that long runs may still be better than biathlon did. It’s more like what she did before. She can focus on skiing alone, without taking the shooting.
– I think long runs should be able to suit her well, especially in these mass starts. And if it were to go together to Spurt, you think she has good qualities in order to be able to win races eventually, he says.

Yes, really. Although it is a long distance to the sprint.
– Absolutely. On the women’s side, it feels like it can go sneaky from the start. I don’t know. On the men’s side, it may be a little more related in clusters, it is important to build an endurance that will last over several hours of competitors. Then age does not play the same role, but it is often a little tougher over the years so to speak. I think she can have many successful years in the long -running circus left.
Stina’s biathlon serites are celebrated
Since Stina switched to Långlopp, she has taken two pallet seats in Ski Classics, plus two fourth places and three fifth places. In other words, she has started her career very promising. In March, Vasaloppet awaits, which may be considered to be the highlight of the year.
It has been good for her now in the beginning. Maybe it can be nice considering that it was still four a little half -working years for her as a biathlon?
– Yes, yes, like this in retrospect … you have to remember that she still took some pallet and it is still powerful to have done it in two so different sports. It’s really cool, he says and continues:

– Then you don’t really get a place in the Swedish team as it looks right now when they are so good. So it wasn’t an easy way to go either. But it was impressive that she did. Now it will be exciting to follow the long -running circus here.
What do you think of Stina’s career as a biathlon? Was it right of her to change sports again? Feel free to leave a comment on the Sport Bible Facebook page.
