The Green Party has lost its two mandates and thus the Värmlandssamverkan is a thing of the past. Three of the other parties that have been involved in governing together lose six mandates, while the Social Democrats and the Sweden Democrats gain three new mandates each.
So, even though the Moderates advanced in the regional elections, it looks difficult for them to continue governing – at least with their old cooperation partners.
But Fredrik Larsson doesn’t think it’s a dead end. An alternative is to govern with the Sweden Democrats.
In the clip above, he explains how he thinks.
The Social Democrats are probing
The first name of the Social Democrats, Åsa Johansson, states that she keeps the door open to all parties except the Sweden Democrats and preferably not the Health Care Party. There, the view of the local care places in Säffle and Kristinehamn, which were pushed through by SiV under protests from S, is a strong dividing line.
The ideological proximity to the Left Party makes them a natural first choice for S, but this risks shutting out other collaborations, for example with the Center Party.
– If it were to be relevant, it would require a major discussion internally, says the Center Party’s first name, Erik Evestam.

He tells us that C has not yet agreed internally which path they should take. It is above all the view on private care that will be difficult to compromise with, if they are to govern with S. Recently, together with the other parties in the Värmlandssamverkan, they have put forward a proposal for free choice of care in child and youth psychiatry – which Åsa Johansson ( S) says is “out of the question”.
Is it a must for C in future negotiations?
– I can’t say if it is, but it is an important part for us with the freedom of choice, says Erik Evestam.
– You can also imagine an opposition role, we have ruled for twelve years and have shrunk and are a bit sprained. So an opposition role is also in the balance.
