– Should you be allowed to date someone who has a sentence of this kind? Yes, even an elected and public figure should be able to do that, says Fredrick Federley in the program Persona non grata – Fredrick Federley.
In the fall of 2020, several media reported that a person Fredrick Federley had a relationship with had previously been convicted of several sexual crimes against children.
– Once he told me that he had been in prison, it was quite a shock. And then I ask: “Only you haven’t murdered anyone?” and he answers: “No”. Then I said: “Then so be it,” says Fredrick Federley.
Didn’t you ask why he had been in prison?
– We barely knew each other at all and I felt that if we don’t even know if we should hang out, maybe I don’t need to know more.
Studying to become a priest
Fredrick Federley is currently studying theology with the aim of becoming a priest, and believes that people deserve a second chance.
– Maybe it’s people’s opinion that if you meet someone with a burdened past, then you should, as it were, immediately cut off that contact.
Isn’t it about the nature of the crime in this case? That people do not accept sexual crimes against children?
– But then you have to say like this: “We think it should be tattooed on their forehead” – so you know someone is a sex offender the first time you meet them.
