His brother and member of the funk group, Verdine White himself announced the death of the musician on Monday January 2, 2023 in a Instagram post. “Our family is saddened today by the loss of an incredible and talented family member”, writes the man on the social network recalling that Frederick Eugene known as “Freddie” or “Fred” White had won a first disc of ‘or at the age of 16 and was one of the first members of the group famous for its hits including the unforgettable september.
The Earth, Wind & Fire drummer’s cause of death has not been released by his family or loved ones. More than expanding on the circumstances of the disappearance of the artist at only 67 years old, many have preferred to pay tribute to the percussionist. On their Instagram page, the funk band posted a video a drum solo on the title Runnin’ signed Fred White during a concert in 1979 at the Rockpalast in Germany.

Fred White passed away after enjoying a decade-long career in star disco-funk bands between 1974 and 1984. And the musician was only a teenager when he beat the rhythm of first hits of Earth, Wind and Fire founded by his brother Maurice White in 1969. Born in 1955 in Chicago, Illinois, the drummer enjoyed success at the same time as his brothers in the 1970s with titles that still resonate more than 50 years after their releases: let’s groove or boogie wonderland. A commercial and critical success with no less than six Grammy Awards won by the members of the group, including Fred White. The members of Earth, Wind & Fire were also consecrated by entering the pantheon of pop and rock artists in 2000: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The 2010s also saw the White siblings and the members of the group flirt with success since the musicians had hosted Barack Obama’s entry into the White House in 2009, benefiting in the process from a new spotlight on the young generation. If at the time Fred White was no longer installed on drums, his name was still associated with the hits of the group.
