The government proposes several legislative changes on stricter penalties. Among other things, harsher penalties for fraud against the elderly.

The Government writes in the Law Council’s remit that “more cases of fraud should be considered as serious crimes and give a harsher punishment”, by placing extra emphasis on whether “the perpetrator has in a ruthless manner exploited the victim’s discrepancy or vulnerable position or if the act has been included in a crime practiced in organized form or systematically ”.

In this case, protection or exposed position may, for example, refer to an elderly person.

The Government also proposes to be convicted of rape against children and sexual abuse against children, if you “carry out a sexual intercourse or another sexual act with a child under 18” and use that the child has, for example, “mental illness or disability, for example. A reduced ability to safeguard their sexual integrity ”.

Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (M) says according to a press release:

“This is important as we through these legislative changes strengthen the protection of some of the most vulnerable in our society. This applies, for example, to children who have disabilities or who feel very ill mentally and are subjected to sexual abuse. This also applies to other groups, such as the elderly when exposed to fraud. It is important that the punishment in these cases reflects the seriousness of the crime in a better way than today, and now we make sure it is so ”.

The legislative changes are proposed to enter into force on July 1 this year.
