When Fifa announced who will referee the group stage match between Costa Rica and Germany, it became official that Frappart will be the main referee. In doing so, the 38-year-old Frenchman becomes the first female referee in a match in a men’s World Cup.
In the match, Neuza Back and Karen Diaz Medina will act as assistant referees.
Frappart has made history before. Among other things in 2020, when she became the first woman to judge the Champions League for men.
