Nature organizations like to see volunteers like Frans-Jan come, but the young volunteers often lack the time. “My generation already has so much to do,” Frans-Jan explains, “so it’s often very difficult to commit yourself as a young person to a club like ours. Still, I think it’s possible. If that’s what you do as a volunteer , also is what you like to do most. Like in my case. I’m outside, learning every day – and that’s a good thing, because my goal is ultimately to get to know all the plants and trees in the Netherlands – and maybe, just maybe, I would eventually like to make it my profession.”
