Frank Ocean skips this weekend’s gig at Coachella in the US. The reason is spelled several fractures and a crack in one leg, injuries that he received before the previous weekend’s performance at the giant festival in California, the American media write.
Ocean, who is the main attraction of the festival, was heavily criticized for his performance on Sunday. Fans raged over poor sound, poor visibility, and the disengaged star ending his show early. According to a statement from Ocean which among others Variety have taken part in, the lackluster performance is explained by the fact that he was not in shape after the leg injury, which he allegedly sustained on the festival grounds the week before.
“There was chaos. Chaos can be beautiful, but the show was not what I thought it would be,” Ocean said in the statement.
Ocean’s Coachella gigs were hotly anticipated as they are his first gigs since 2017. He was booked to headline as early as 2020 when the festival was canceled due to the pandemic.
Frank Ocean broke through with a bang in 2012 with the debut album “Channel orange”. In 2016 came the sequel “Blonde” and the visual album “Endless”, but since then there has been album-wise silence from the artist.
The Coachella festival is one of the world’s biggest music festivals, and the music industry’s brightest stars usually line up to play during the two weekends the festival runs.
