François-Xavier Bellamy will lead the Republican list for the 2024 European elections. With two fundamental pillars for the right: immigration and European sovereignty.
Born in 1985, François-Xavier Bellamy first began literary studies before turning to philosophy. He joined the Ecole Normale Supérieure in 2005 and passed the philosophy aggregation in 2008. After two stints in ministerial offices, he left his position to teach in secondary schools and then in preparatory classes. In 2008 and 2014, he was elected and then re-elected as deputy mayor of Versailles in charge of youth, secondary and higher education, and employment. His term ends in 2020. In 2019, he was elected a member of the European Parliament and chaired the French delegation of the European People’s Party (EPP). It was in 2023 that he became executive vice-president of the Republicans before leading, in 2024, the Republican list in the European elections on June 9.
Control of immigration and sovereignty of Europe
“François-Xavier Bellamy will lead our campaign. He is a remarkable European elected official who has given influence to our group, to France in the European Parliament in Strasbourg or in Brussels. He is a man of conviction, of value, experience and work” announced President LR Éric Ciotti on January 15 during the 8 p.m. news on TF1. And according to the main person concerned, “there is no shortage of challenges” as he told Le Figaro. Immigration and European sovereignty will be his two pillars during his campaign. “The essential remains to be done to guarantee the protection of our borders” and rebuild “economic sovereignty” he explains. “We must rebuild a Europe that gives our democracies the means to control their destiny. This means no longer relying on suffocating standards but on realistic strategies,” we read in Le Figaro.
On the subject of migration, LR and François-Xavier Bellamy should remain faithful to their uncompromising guideline. “The essential remains to be done to allow European countries to control their borders. The European continent must regain the capacity to produce what it needs” he indicated in the columns of Le Figaro. He did not hesitate, either, to attack the project of the left and Emmanuel Macron concerning ecology which “impoverishes us, weakens us and makes us dependent on imported production which is disastrous for the environment” concludes. he.
François-Xavier Bellamy and LR behind with 8.5% of voting intentions
According to a recent survey carried out by Odoxa for Public Senate and the regional press, the National Rally list led by Jordan Bardella comes well ahead of voting intentions in the next European elections. In second place, eleven points behind, the list of the presidential majority is credited with 19% of the votes and will be led, because it is now official, by Valérie Hayer. The third step of the podium is occupied by Raphaël Glucksmann for the Socialist Party (11%).
The list of Republicans led by François Xavier Bellamy remains far behind with 8.5% of voting intentions. She even lost 0.5 points of voting intentions in one month. She is now overtaken by the list of Ecologists led by Marie Toussaint, also with 8.5% voting intentions. It is clear, for the moment, the relatively significant delay of the list led by François Xavier-Bellamy on the two announced tenors of the next Europeans, the National Rally and Renaissance, the presidential party.
