Francois Bayrous list is still awaited – LExpress

Given as probable on Sunday evening, the presentation of François Bayrou’s government was finally postponed. White smoke this Monday, December 23? The Elysée and Matignon wanted to avoid this date, because it corresponds to the day of national mourning for Mayotte decreed by Emmanuel Macron after the passage of Cyclone Chido which devastated the overseas department. But the Prime Minister had clearly indicated that he wanted to move quickly, by appointing his team “before Christmas”. Yesterday, several telephone exchanges with the president took place during the day, before an interview in the evening at the Elysée.

Information to remember:

⇒ The government’s announcement is planned for this Monday

⇒ Emmanuel Macron and François Bayrou saw each other at the Elysée on Sunday evening

⇒ Some are outraged that the announcement could take place during the day of national mourning for Mayotte

Laurent Wauquiez brings together the LR deputies at 9 a.m.

The president of the Les Républicains deputies will bring together his troops this Monday morning, as announced on BFMTV on Sunday evening by deputy Fabien Di Filipo. On Saturday evening, Laurent Wauquiez already confirmed to them that he was moving towards his party’s participation in the government, subject to written commitments from the Prime Minister “with details on the road map”, particularly budgetary. However, he had indicated that he would not join the Bayrou team himself after having aspired to take the Finance portfolio.

Elisabeth Borne, Gérald Darmanin, Xavier Bertrand… The names circulating

François Bayrou, fourth Prime Minister in 2024, hopes to compose a government of heavyweights, able to avoid censorship, with personalities from the right, the center and the left. The names of former Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and former Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin are being mentioned to join his team. The latter, ex-LR rallied to the macronie, publicly applied for the Quai d’Orsay where the current Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot (MoDem) would like to stay. The name of Xavier Bertrand, figure of the right-wing Les Républicains (LR) party, is also cited for Justice, but the president of Hauts-de-France is an irritant for the National Rally, which he has long fought.

On the left, the former socialist minister François Rebsamen, 73, announced in La Tribune Sunday being “ready” to join the government, touting his long-standing “relationship of trust” with François Bayrou. But there is little or no filter of other personalities from the left who could be tempted to join the executive.

Among those leaving, Catherine Vautrin (Territories), Rachida Dati (Culture) and Sébastien Lecornu (Armies) should remain, probably in the same portfolios. The outgoing Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau is also on course to stay.

D-day for the announcement of the new government?

After last night’s postponement, the announcement of the composition of the Bayrou government is now planned for Monday. The Prime Minister’s entourage announced yesterday that the latter was “making the final adjustments to his government”. Several telephone exchanges with Emmanuel Macron took place during the day, as well as an interview in the evening at the Elysée. “It’s moving forward. […] The structuring of the major ministerial poles is fixed”, assured this weekend the president of the MoDem deputies, Marc Fesneau, close to François Bayrou, confirming that the complete government list should be presented “at once” and “before Christmas”.
