Negotiations to form a new government will begin next week in France, following the elections that ended in a stalemate.
President of France Emmanuel Macron will begin meeting with the leaders of the country’s political parties next week with the aim of naming a new prime minister and government for the country. Reported about it among others, Politico.
“The appointment of the prime minister will follow these negotiations and their final conclusions,” the presidential chancellery Elysée said in a press release. The president and the leaders of the parties will meet on Friday 23 August.
Government negotiations were postponed over the Paris Olympics. Now, however, the work has to be started, because almost a month and a half has passed since the parliamentary elections.
The negotiations will not be easy, as the elections produced a difficult result: none of the coalitions got an absolute majority in the parliament.
Likely prime ministerial candidates are a left-wing coalition Lucie Castetsof the Republican Party Valerie Pecressebthe Socialist Party Bernard Cazeneuve and the Republican Party Xavier Bertrand.
