France’s ex-president Hollande unexpectedly became a candidate in the French parliamentary elections | News in brief

Former Socialist President of France Francois Hollande announced on Saturday that he will run for office in the upcoming early parliamentary elections. Hollande was the president of France from 2012 to 2017, and at the end of his term was unpopular at a record high.

Hollande is running for parliament from the Correze region in southwestern France on the lists of the new NFP party. The Untuvikko party includes socialists, communists and greens as well.

– An extraordinary decision in extraordinary times, Hollande reasoned.

Officially, the Socialists reacted to Hollande’s announcement very neutrally. Pierre Jouvet, who heads the Socialists’ election activities, simply stated that “the party has noticed the candidacy”.

However, unofficially, Socialist party sources told news agency AFP that Hollande’s candidacy in the new party was a bad blow to the Socialists.
