A year after her title of team Olympic vice-champion in Tokyo in foil, Ysaora Thibus is crowned world champion. The French fencer won the final in Cairo, Egypt, on Tuesday July 19 against the Italian Arianna Errigo, 15 touches to 10. She finally won the most beautiful metal, after bronze in 2017 and silver in 2018. No French foil fencer had won world gold since Marie-Chantal Demaille in 1971. A few minutes after Ysaora Thibus, his compatriot Romain Cannone also sought his first title of world champion in epee. He beat the Japanese Kazuyasu Minobe, 15 touches to 12. The swordsman had already won Olympic gold in Tokyo last summer. The last French epee world champion was Yannick Borel in 2018. On Monday, Maxime Pianfetti brought France its first medal in these Worlds with silver in saber.
