After a goalless quarter-final in the first 90 minutes, France was finally able to get a break on the Netherlands, who are the reigning European champions. This on penalty in the 102nd minute. Eve Perisset scored the penalty.
Dominique Janssen caused the penalty when she brought down Kadidiatou Diani.
France were heavy favorites in the quarter-finals after winning their European Championship group. And it was also France who set full speed straight away and dominated the first half.
There was no lack of scoring chances. Twice the Netherlands were saved by centre-back Stephanie van der Gragt. First she saved Melvine Malard’s shot on the goal line and moments later she stood in the way when Grace Geyoro shot and her own goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar was elsewhere.
In the second half, the Netherlands got into some good attacking positions, but failed to get more than one shot on target in the 90 minutes. France had twelve scoring chances, but Netherlands goalkeeper van Domselaar had a great game, as did “second goalkeeper” van der Gragt.
In the final minute of added time, it was close to France doing like Sweden and deciding on a corner. But Wendy Renard’s header was saved by van Domselaar.
In Wednesday’s semi-final, France meets Germany.
