France: Should the minimum wage be increased to 1600 euros net?

five questions to understand the issues of an electric debate

In France, the left alliance continues its negotiations to propose the name of a Prime Minister. These negotiations are dragging on, many are getting impatient and fear that the New Popular Front will miss the opportunity to govern.

The NFP is already trying to implement measures from its program: La France insoumise announced this Tuesday, July 23, 2024, that it will file a law to repeal the pension reform at age 64. In this program, we are interested in another measure from the NFP’s economic program: increasing the SMIC, the minimum wage, to 1,600 euros net. Among economists, this proposal does not have a consensus. Could it be a false good idea?
