France has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council due to the situation in Lebanon for this week. The request was made by the French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrotwho told the UN General Assembly about it on Monday.

Barrot also called on all parties to avoid a large-scale regional conflict that would be disastrous for everyone, especially civilians.

Israel has been carrying out airstrikes on Lebanon at a high rate recently. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, Israel’s attacks on Monday have killed almost 500 people, of which at least a hundred have been women and children.
