France reaches a record number of contaminations

More than 94,000 cases in 24 hours, France has never experienced so many new Covid-19 contaminations in the space of a day. As the Omicron variant spreads, the pressure on the hospital increases a bit more. A Defense Council will meet on Monday to decide on measures to stem this 5th wave which seems out of control.

With 94,124 positive cases in 24 hours, France has largely crossed its highest number of contaminations since the start of the epidemic in March 2020.

The fifth wave is intensifying and now seems to be amplified by the Omicron variant, which is much more contagious. Over the past seven days, the average was 66,417 new cases daily. These figures obviously have consequences for the hospital system with an increase in admissions to critical care, which receives 3,254 patients. In all, more than 16,000 people are currently hospitalized.

Defense Council Monday
