France raises its tone after a provocative statement from Netanyahu

This Tuesday, Egypt and Jordan jointly condemned “Israeli aggression” in Lebanon. “We condemn Israeli aggression against Lebanon, we condemn Israel’s bombing of the Lebanese capital, we condemn Israel’s assistance to Lebanese citizens,” said Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi. His Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty recalled the “solidarity of their countries with the Lebanese State and people”, namely Egypt and Jordan.

On Tuesday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot tried to react after the threats of “destruction and (suffering) like those we see in Gaza”, made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against Lebanon, if the country did not “get rid of the pro-Iranian militia Hezbollah”.

The French minister denounces a “provocation”, which, if it “was followed by effect, would lead Lebanon, a country friendly to France already so fragile, into chaos. And this would pose even greater security problems for Israel than those which prevailed before the military operations in Lebanon”, warned Jean-Noël Barrot, on France 2. “The situation in Lebanon is catastrophic”, he recalled. “Force must give way to dialogue”, he indicated on the set of France 2.

A strike attributed to Israel targeted a district of Damascus in Syria this Tuesday, October 8, 2024, targeting a senior Hezbollah official potentially involved in arms trafficking between Iran and Lebanon. A residential building located a few hundred meters from the Iranian embassy was notably targeted. The SANA news agency deplores the death of seven civilians in this strike.

According to Al-Hadath, a Saudi media outlet, the target of this attack was a member of Hezbollah’s Unit 4400, a cell responsible for transporting weapons from Iran and its allies to the terrorist group in Lebanon. Information which has not yet been officially confirmed. This attack is part of Israel’s logic of actions against Hezbollah and its allies.

A new evacuation order followed by yet another series of Israeli strikes. This Tuesday evening, the Hebrew state continued its objectives in the southern suburbs of Beirut, stronghold of Hezbollah. “Massive destruction” was reported by the Lebanese national information agency after these bombings. While some of its positions must have been hit by Israeli forces again this evening, Hezbollah clearly threatened the Jewish state to intensify its strikes if Israel did not calm things down. “Haifa and other places will be targeted by our rockets, as are Kiryat Shmona and Metoula,” warned Hezbollah.
