This Thursday, June 19, the so-called “harvesting of shame” trial is open to the Correctional Court of Châlons-en-Champagne in the north-eastern France. Three people appear for having exploited around fifty workers, mainly undocumented, for harvesting grapes in the famous Champagne vineyard. For several years, scandals have multiplied in this region, where the grapes must be picked up by hand, with a peak of activity of only two to three weeks. The defendants risk 7 years in prison and 150,000 euros fine if they are sentenced to human trafficking.
