France – Netherlands: Krumbholz’s strong choice in these 2024 Olympic Games

France Netherlands Krumbholzs strong choice in these 2024 Olympic

At the Arena Paris Sud, this Sunday, July 28, the French team is playing its second match in these 2024 Olympic Games, challenging the Netherlands.

Reigning Olympic champion, the French women’s handball team continues its JO 2024 with the favorite’s sign. A sign shared with Norway, vice-world champion and beaten for the Blues in the final (24-23), last December. This same Norway which had put an end to the series of 23 French victories from November 2022 to July 2024.

To continue to reign over the handball world, coach Olivier Krumbholz made two strong choices by placing Darleux and especially Zaadi Deuna on the reserve list. Concerning the player playing in the half-center position, he explained: “We’ve had seven good backs for a while now. We should have only put six, so I made a subjective choice. If you only take the key players, you’ll have the same team for twenty years. There are things that evolve and I had to take risks to put together the best team. You can’t erase a competition where you’ve won everything. Some players scored points during the World Cup (Horacek, Grandveau in particular). But the road is going to be long. I’m sure there will be injuries in the group, and that changes will have to be made.”

The interested party reacted with class to this decision: “I had prepared myself not to play in the 2024 Olympics. I had prepared myself to be either in either out. Either in the 14 or not at all. So being a substitute is a surprise. Everything I was able to produce in the French team is part of the past, it is not something to which I attach myself and which should make me legitimate today because I built that with the French team.”

At the Arena Paris Sud, France will challenge the Netherlands for its entry into the 2024 Olympic Games. Kick-off will take place at 9:00 p.m.
