The widow of Eric Comyn, the police officer killed when he refused to comply in Mougins, gave a very strong speech, regretting the abolition of the death penalty.
This Wednesday, August 26, the Mandelieu town hall organized a tribute ceremony for Éric Comyn, the police officer who died after being hit by a hit-and-run driver after refusing to comply in Mougins. During this solemn, emotionally charged moment, his widow spoke and gave a speech that showed her anger. “I thank our France for killing my dear husband, whom I love so much, the father of my children. Mind you, I’m not talking about foreigners, but about repeat offenders,” she declared before continuing: “I say it loud and clear, France killed my husband. France killed her husband through its laxity, its inadequacy and its excess of tolerance.”
The gendarme’s widow questioned the profile of the reckless driver, known to the police for several serious traffic offences: “Why can this repeat offender be allowed to move around freely?”, before pointing out the abolition of the death penalty and the penal reform laws implemented by Robert Badinter. “1981 should never have happened. […] What’s next for this murderer? Immediate deportation pending trial, three hot meals a day, social assistance in the jails. Then there will be a reduction in sentence, release, and then he starts again,” she said, clearly very moved. LCI has notably posted the video of his speech.

While the legal proceedings have not yet been decided, the gendarme’s widow described the defendant as a murderer, in sentences that show dismay. “How many more deaths before these murderers are truly punished?” she declared, in front of the gendarmerie officers, the mayor of the town and several deputies who came to attend the tribute ceremony.
