After 4 years of investigation, former surgeon Joël le Scouarnec will have another appointment with justice in 2025. The 73-year-old man is accused of rape and sexual assault on nearly 300 victims, mostly minors. . Pedocriminal acts which span 30 years of career in hospitals in the center and west of France. He is currently in detention for similar charges. He will appear before the criminal court of Morbihan, in Brittany.

299 potential victims. Young boys and girls who were 11 years old on average at the time of the events, and not all of them appear on the indictment order. The rapes and assaults of which Joël le Scouarnec is accused date back to 1986, and certain facts are therefore prescribed.

This is not the first time that this former surgeon, now 73 years old, has come into contact with the law.

In 2005, after being confused by an FBI investigation, he was sentenced to 4 years in prison for possession of child pornography, without this preventing him from continuing to work in hospitals in contact with minors.

In 2020, he was sentenced this time to 15 years of criminal imprisonment for rape and sexual assault against four young girls: a patient, two of his nieces and a six-year-old child who was his neighbor. It is the latter which made it possible to stop child criminals.

After his complaint, investigators discovered notebooks and diaries in his home in which he recounted nearly 30 years of attacks.

This new trial will open before the criminal court of Vannes, in Brittany, from the beginning of 2025 and could last 3 to 4 months. This time, Joël le Scouarnec risks 20 years of criminal imprisonment.
