France crushed Gibraltar in the European Championship qualifiers – dream goal by Mbappé

Back Ethan Santos had the hardest start in Gibraltar. He steered the game’s first goal into his own cage after three minutes and just under a quarter of an hour later he was shown the red card when he stamped 17-year-old Warren Zaire-Emery at the same time as the Frenchman scored.

But after that it probably got more difficult for Santos’ teammates, who needed to experience the display from start to finish.

The half ended with three goals in just over three minutes for 7-0 going into the half-time break.

Well into the second half, Gibraltar kept a clean sheet for just under 20 minutes. But once the goals started rolling in again, it almost never stopped. There were seven more goals in the second half – with Kylian Mbappé’s long shot and Olivier Giroud’s bicycle kick standing out.

14-0 are the biggest victory figures in an EC qualifying match. The previous record was 13-0, won by Germany against San Marino in the 2006 European Championship qualifier.

Several secured EC tickets

With one game left to play, France are finished as group winners ahead of the Netherlands. The Netherlands are ready for the EC after winning against Ireland 1-0 in the evening.

Romania and Switzerland also secured their tickets to the summer championships on Saturday.
