In partnership with BVA, France Assos Santé unveils the results of its Barometer of the rights of sick people 2023. While the French say they are well informed about their health, progress remains to be made in terms of end of life and drug shortages.
According to the France Assos Santé Barometer 2023, carried out in partnership with BVA, among 3,690 people over the age of 15 representative of the French population, more than nine out of ten French people “feel well informed about their health as well as about the care and treatment related to it and more than 80% consider themselves well informed about the quality of care in health establishments, or their pathways and costs of care“.
Worrying drug shortages
Regarding drugs, on the other hand, almost four out of ten respondents (37%) explain having “already experienced a shortage of medicines in pharmacies, a proportion up 8 points compared to 2022“.
In addition, 39% of those who faced a shortage left “without having been offered an alternative solution“. A situation described as “worrying” for France Assos Santé which denounces “the acceleration of stock-outs for drugs of major therapeutic interest alone -44 in 2008, 3,000 in 2023“and the urgency of”enforce the legislation in force vis-à-vis manufacturers both in terms of their obligations and the penalties incurred in the event of breach, to reinforce security stocks and to objectify the loss of opportunities caused by these shortages”.
For 15% of respondents, the end-of-life wishes of their loved ones were “not taken into account”
Finally, with regard to the end of life, the figures are also less good. Indeed, according to the conclusions of the Barometer, the respondents questioned on “their sense of taking into account the wishes and preferences of a loved one concerned in terms of care for their end of life” were only 60% to consider that they were taken into account “totally or partially”. On the other hand, 15% report that they were not taken into account on the contrary.
