After almost a month of fasting, Ramadan is coming to an end. The date of the end of this sacred month for Muslims can however vary from country to country.
Started in the night February 28 to March 1, the month of Ramadan 2025 is coming to an end. Just like that of the beginning of the sacred month for Muslims, the end date of the month of Ramadan can vary from one country to another. And for good reason, there are several schools to determine it. The Muslim calendar is based on the cycles of the moon. Some prefer to stick to tradition by observing the new crescent moon on the occasion of the night of doubt to fix the end date of Ramadan. The night of doubt was set this year at Saturday, March 29. In Morocco, as in Tunisia, practicing Muslims will therefore officially know on Saturday evening if they have finished their fasting month or if they have to do one more day on Sunday.
Others prefer to base themselves on learned astronomical calculations. They have the advantage of determining the end of the month of Ramadan upstream. This is particularly the case in Türkiye where, according to the official calendar established by the presidency of religious affairs, Ramadans will end on Saturday. In France, calculations allow us to announce that Saturday March 29 will also be the last day of the month of Ramadan 2025 and that Eid El-Fitr will therefore be celebrated on Sunday, March 30. The date was officially announced by the French advice from Muslim worship (CFCM). One night of doubt will however be organized on Saturday March 29 to revalidate the date. In Tunisia, in Morocco, the observation of the moon prevails. The date will therefore be set on Saturday evening. In Algeria, the date does not yet seem fixed either. Ramadan will end either on Saturday evening or Sunday evening. The same goes in most Muslim countries that still prefer to wait for the observation of the moon.
