France: absolute monarchy, from François I to Louis XVI

France absolute monarchy from Francois I to Louis XVI

Absolute monarchy is a political regime in which the king has all the powers! How did the French monarchy succeed in embodying the royal absolutism by divine right that truly shines with Louis XIV? From the reign of Francis Ier at that of Louis XVI, we are witnessing the establishment and the apogee of a political system embodied in the person of the king, which definitively ceased to exist in 1789.

A monarchical sovereignty can only be unique. The king has understood this, all subjects owe him obedience!

Towards absolutism

Francis Ier Was he the first absolute monarch? He will initiate many reforms that will be continued by Henry II. Years of violent conflict between Catholics and Protestants followed until the accession to power ofHenry IV. His successor Louis XIII redefines royal absolutism. Then his son Louis XIV, says the Sun King, will represent radiant absolutism. On his death, Louis XV became king under the regency of Philippe d’Orléans who passed on to the young king a kingdom in good working order. The regent Philippe d’Orléans will have relaunched commercial exchanges and favored the deleveraging of the State and the population. With Louis XV, the royal State must face the rise of oppositions and the absolute monarchy ends with Louis XVI, a misunderstood reforming king.
