Philippe Manier’s trial continues before the Paris Assize Court. This former chief warrant officer of the gendarmerie of Nyanza, in the prefecture of Butare in southern Rwanda, is being prosecuted for genocide and crimes against humanity, accusations which he disputes. At the end of its 5th week of hearings, the court is now interested in the Nyamure hill massacre which caused several thousand deaths on April 27, 1994. It notably heard Valens, 57 years old today. This survivor and civil party was at the time a farmer and a clothing seller. He came to the bar to give his account of the killing.
