France estimates that 150,000 Russian soldiers died fighting in Ukraine. That’s what the country’s foreign minister Stephane Sejourné says in an interview with the Russian independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta.
Sejourné says France estimates the total Russian loss at 500,000 soldiers, of which 150,000 have been killed since the full-scale Russian invasion began in February 2022.
– All this for what? It can be summed up: nothing, says Sejourné to the newspaper.
In mid-April, the BBC reported that the Russian military death toll exceeded 50,000, after the Russian BBC, Russian independent Mediazona and a group of volunteers counted the deaths. To help them, they had official reports, news coverage and social media, as well as names of newly dug graves.
