Four years after the landslide – settlement of the Tarfalahallen in Kiruna

The settlement means that SA Englund must pay SEK 40 million to the municipality. It cost approximately SEK 50 million to build the hall, which was completed in August 2015.

Demanded 100 million

Kiruna municipality had demanded 100 million kroner in a damages case, which is now not going away.

– We had been looking forward to a better agreement, but according to our lawyers who assisted us in the case, we have come to the end of the road. The assessment is that this is the best that Kiruna municipality can expect, says municipal councilor Mats Taaveniku (S).

Different opinions

A legal process could also have taken many years. The football, athletics and climbing sports practitioners in Kiruna have already waited a long time for a new building to be able to start.

Representatives of SA Englund and Kiruna municipality have had different ideas about what caused the slide. Kiruna municipality has claimed that the roof was incorrectly constructed, while the construction company has considered that the municipality has been careless with the shoveling of the roof.
