The mother of three Dori Scott enrolled her four-year-old son Israel “Izzy” Scott in a beginner swimming class this summer, this after he showed a fondness for water during a family vacation that summer. To the Mirror news site, Dori Scott says she contacted a swimming instructor on Facebook who claimed she had decades of experience.
The first day Dori Scott took her son to the swim instructor, she was told to wait in the car while Izzy learned to swim in the instructor’s pool, to avoid “distractions.”
“What if I drown”
But the other day when Dori Scott was sitting in her car outside waiting for her son, she claims a sad woman knocked on the car window. Sensing concern, the mother of three entered the pool area and saw her son lying unconscious while a person performed CPR on him.
– He asked me “but what if I drown”, whereupon I said “you won’t drown” and he laughed it off. Then it happened, day two, says Dori Scott news site.
The boy was then taken to a hospital in Burke County, Georgia, before being taken to Children’s Hospital of Georgia, in Augusta, where he died early on June 15, 2022.
Fighting for new laws after his son’s death
Now Dori Scott is fighting for new laws that dictate an adult-child relationship at swimming lessons in her state. At the same time, she urges parents to never leave their children alone – not even with swimming instructors.
