Four professional driver training courses have their permits revoked due to quality deficiencies, the Swedish Transport Agency announces. The authority now intends to carry out a larger review of the industry.

“The training does not live up to the requirements that exist. It risks having consequences for the drivers – in the long run, it is about both safety in working life and road safety in general,” says inspector Jussi Ståhl on the Swedish Transport Agency’s website.

The four permits – which apply to one initial training and three cases of further training for professional drivers – will be revoked after supervision in 2023.

According to the Swedish Transport Agency, the four trainers are not sufficiently familiar with the requirements for professional driver training. Among other things, there is a lack of documentation that shows the students’ subject knowledge and driving training.

“We take it very seriously and have therefore decided to revoke the permits,” says Jussi Ståhl.

In a further review of the industry, the Swedish Transport Agency will examine around ten percent of all permit holders. The focus must be on trainers who conduct continuing education in professional driver competence.
