Four new COVID-19 outbreaks in CK

Outbreak declared at retirement residence

Public health officials are reporting four new COVID-19 outbreaks in Chatham-Kent.

During Wednesday’s update, there were outbreaks listed at three group homes, with seven cases in total, as well as Copper Terrace nursing home, with 15 cases. There are seven outbreaks in total.

Seventy-six new confirmed cases were reported since Monday. The seven-day rolling average currently sits at 32 daily cases.

Seven people are primarily being treated for the virus in hospital, stated the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. One is in intensive care, but not primarily being treated for COVID-19.

Ontario reported 1,332 people in hospital with COVID-19 on Wednesday and 182 in intensive care, compared with 1,366 hospitalizations on Tuesday, and 190 people in ICUs.

Another 3,833 new infections were reported, but access to PCR testing is restricted and the scientific director of Ontario’s panel of COVID-19 advisers has said wastewater surveillance suggests the province is seeing between 100,000 and 120,000 new cases each day.
