According to a diplomatic source contacted by RFI, it was on December 1 in Ouagadougou that the four French people were arrested. According to the same source, these nationals are technical civil servants, holders of valid diplomatic passports and on mission for a computer maintenance operation for the benefit of the French Embassy.

Still according to RFI’s source, the four French people were indicted two weeks later and then incarcerated at Maco, the capital’s remand center.

According to information from Young Africa, these would be agents of the DGSE, the French external services, who would therefore have been arrested for “espionage”. The magazine claims that the agents had arrived in the country in good standing for an official mission.

Despite the increasingly tense relations between the France and the Burkina Fasothe publication maintains that the intelligence of the two countries continued to maintain relations of technical and operational cooperation.

Information supported by AFP which specifies, citing a European diplomatic source, that the four French people are known to their Burkinabè colleagues. Negotiations are reportedly underway to obtain their release.
