At least four people have been killed and several injured in an Israeli airstrike on a neighborhood in the Lebanese capital Beirut, which is close to the city’s main public hospital. One of the dead is said to be a child.
“The Israeli attack near Hariri Hospital preliminarily killed four people, including a child, and wounded 24,” Lebanon’s health ministry said in a statement, adding that it had caused “significant damage to the hospital.”
Rafiq al-Hariri is the largest public hospital in Lebanon and took over the treatment of some patients who had previously been evacuated from hospitals in al-Dahiya, Beirut’s southern suburbs, due to intense Israeli bombing in the area.
The attacks are said to have taken place shortly after the Israeli military called on the residents of several areas to evacuate.
Just two hours earlier, the Israeli military said Hezbollah hid hundreds of millions of dollars in cash under a hospital in Haret Hreik, a neighborhood in al-Dahiya. The hospital was quickly evacuated following the allegation, a charge the hospital director has since denied.
Israel has not commented on the data.
