Founder of Rockstar Games described a horror scenario for GTA 6 in 2018 that happened today

One of Rockstar’s founders, Dan Houser, made a statement in an interview in 2018 that appears in a new light as of today, November 6th, 2024. The now 50-year-old said: He is grateful that GTA 6 is not being released during Donald Trump’s presidency. But it is precisely in such a presidency that GTA 6 will appear and times are even crazier than Houser feared.

What exactly did he say then? In an interview with GQ in 2018, Dan Houser spoke about the western epic Red Dead Redemption 2. Back when Trump was president, Houser was happy that the release date of GTA 6 would not fall during Donald Trump’s term in office.

He was elected in 2016, but even if he had served two terms in a row, he would certainly have left office when GTA 6 was released.

Therefore Dan Houser says:

It’s really unclear what we would do with it, let alone how upset people would be about whatever we do. Both intense liberal development and intense conservatism are both very militant and very angry. It’s scary, but also strange, and yet both seem to tip over into the absurd at times. For these reasons, it is difficult to satirize her. Some of what you see is simply beyond satire. It would be out of date in two minutes because everything changes so quickly.

We reported about it on MeinMMO back then.

GTA 6 as a satire on a time that is itself a satire

That’s what lies behind it: GTA 6 has always been a wild satire of the current times. Red Dead Redemption 2, on the other hand, was a game about a past time period that has little to do with the present.

After Trump won the US election today, GTA 6 will appear in exactly the same world that Houser feared back then. It is a world that itself seems like an exaggerated satire:

  • Both the conservative and liberal camps, at least in the USA, are even more militant than in 2018 and even angrier
  • Trump tips into the absurd even more often than before (via YouTube)
  • And a lot of what would have seemed like exaggerated satire in 2018 has actually already happened
  • Who is Dan Houser? Dan Houser (50) founded Rockstar Games together with his brother Sam Houser. He has been involved in 5 GTA games, his last game being Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018.

In March 2020, Dan Houser retired from Rockstar Games. He most recently founded the studio “Aburd Ventures” and worked on a new “Open World Action Adventure”.

It will be interesting to see how GTA 6 deals with the new situation. To some extent, GTA 6 is already confronted with the problem that satirical and exaggerated characters that are in the game are now too real: Tattooed man demands 2 million dollars from GTA 6: “They stole my life”
