May is a period when moose cows reject their calves, causing them to become confused and lost.
During the Ascension weekend, the Högare family saw a lone calf – which a day later had to move in.
During a dog walk, the Högare family from Enköping saw a lonely lost elk calf waddling around in a field. But the moose cow never appeared.
Over a day later they went back to check if the calf was still there, which it was – knocked out, lying on the ground.
– Then we made the decision that she would be allowed to come home with us, says Sanna Högare.
Yra Annie moved on
For a week, the little calf, named Yra Annie, lived in the family’s kitchen, before Gårdsjö moose park could accept her.
In November, Yra-Anni was released among the other moose in the park and at regular intervals the Högare family greets her in Vansjö.
– We have been here several times now to visit her. It’s fantastic to see that she’s growing and doing well, because we didn’t know if she would survive, says Sanna.
